Description

Walerga Bridge – Replacement Project

Placer County Department of Public Works is replacing the existing bridge on Walerga Road over Dry Creek, approximately 3 miles west of the City of Roseville between Baseline Road and PFE Road.

The existing bridge is 32 feet wide and 128 feet long. The new bridge will be approximately 101 feet wide and 514 feet long, accommodating four 12-foot wide lanes, two 4-foot wide shoulders, a variable width median, a 12-foot wide Class 1 Bikeway, and an 8-foot wide walkway.

Both the bikeway and walkway will be separated from traffic by concrete barriers on each side to maximize safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. In addition, the new bridge deck elevation will be increased approximately 14 feet to elevate the roadway and bridge above the flood waters.

Construction Begins Wednesday, April 3rd

Weather permitting, Walerga Road construction will begin Wednesday, April 3rd.  We are expecting recurrent lane/shoulder closures and one lane reversing traffic control in the project area on Walerga Road (north of PFE Road and south of Baseline Road) beginning Wednesday, April 3rd.  The lane closures will continue intermittently throughout the 2.5-year construction and will take place between 8:30am and 4:00pm Monday through Friday, with the full roadway being re-opened each afternoon.  Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the construction site and we will have a plan for traffic control personnel to follow in the event that these vehicles need to pass through during the lane closure.  We will also try to get school buses through the site as quickly as possible.

Frequently Asked
Questions

When the bridge project is complete, will Walerga Road be 4 lanes all the way to the Sacramento County line?2019-04-29T12:24:13-07:00

The Walerga Bridge project work is funded by the Federal Highway Bridge Program, so our project limits go along with the vertical elevation touch down points of the bridge.  The bridge project will make Walerga Road 4 lanes from the intersection of Walerga Rd./Seabiscuit Dr./Tiller St. to the northern conform point, just south of the intersection of Walerga Rd./Doyle Ranch Dr./Waterstone Dr.  Homes By Towne (the Developer currently constructing the Mariposa Farms at Riolo development) will be widening the intersection of PFE Rd./Walerga Rd.  That project will continue the 4 lanes from the bridge project conform point south to the intersection of Walerga Rd./Old Dairy Rd./Singing Tree Ln., which is south of the Sacramento County line.  Homes by Towne expects to construct this project in late summer 2019 or spring 2020.

When will construction start?2019-04-29T12:26:25-07:00

The County anticipates the start of construction to be between March and April 2019.  The actual start time will depend on the weather.

2.5 years
